What Cottage Homecare NJ Actually Provides

Our caregivers help with the parts of daily life that get harder with age, illness, or injury: bathing, dressing, meal prep, mobility, light housekeeping, and company through the day. This is non-medical, hands-on support. It is not a substitute for nursing or hospital-level care.

When a client's care plan requires skilled nursing, wound care, infusion, or physical therapy, we coordinate that piece through a licensed home health or nursing partner. We do not represent ourselves as a Certified Home Health Agency (CHHA) or hospice provider, because we are neither. Our role is to staff and manage the personal care and companion care side of a client's plan, and to work alongside the clinical providers a family already has in place.

Personal Care and Companion Support

This is where most of our work happens day to day:

  • Bathing, grooming, and dressing assistance
  • Mobility support and fall-risk awareness
  • Meal planning and preparation
  • Light housekeeping, laundry, and errands
  • Conversation, companionship, and getting clients out to appointments or social visits

Care Schedules

Families choose the schedule that fits. Some need a few hours a few days a week. Others need someone in the home around the clock.

  • Hourly or part-time visits
  • Full daily coverage
  • Live-in, 24/7 arrangements
  • Short-term support after a hospital stay or during a family caregiver's break

Paying for Care

New Jersey home care is generally paid one of three ways: through Medicaid Managed Long-Term Services and Supports (MLTSS), out of pocket as private pay, or through a family-directed program where an eligible relative is paid to provide care. Which option makes sense depends on income, existing Medicaid enrollment, and the level of care needed. Our intake team can walk through eligibility with a family before any paperwork starts.

When a Client Needs More Than Personal Care

Some clients also need things outside our scope, and we say so plainly instead of stretching what we offer:

  • Skilled nursing, wound care, or infusion therapy — handled through a licensed home health agency partner, not directly by Cottage.
  • Hospice care — provided by a licensed hospice agency; our caregivers can provide non-medical companion support alongside a hospice team, but we don't manage the hospice care plan itself.
  • Physical or occupational therapy — coordinated with a licensed therapy provider as part of a client's broader plan.

Areas We Serve

Cottage Homecare NJ serves families across all 21 New Jersey counties, including Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Union, Middlesex, and Passaic. If you're not sure whether we cover your town, call and we'll confirm.

Frequently Asked Questions

New Jersey Medicaid through MLTSS, private pay, and family-directed caregiver programs, depending on eligibility.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can companion care help a senior who lives alone and feels lonely?

Absolutely. Companion care is designed specifically for seniors who live alone and need regular social interaction, emotional support, and safe company. A trained companion caregiver visits regularly to talk, play games, go for walks, or simply be present — reducing loneliness and improving quality of life.

Is companion care right for someone with early-stage dementia?

Yes — companion care is often an ideal starting point for someone with early-stage dementia. A companion caregiver provides consistent routines, gentle engagement, and supervision that helps slow cognitive decline while keeping your loved one safe and stimulated at home.

Is companion care covered at no cost for Medicaid recipients?

In many states, companion care services are fully covered by Medicaid with no out-of-pocket cost to eligible clients. Cottage Home Care will verify your loved one's Medicaid coverage and explain exactly what is included at no cost to you.

Can companion care give family members a break from caregiving?

Yes — many families use companion care as respite care, allowing a daughter, son, or spouse to take a break from daily caregiving duties without worrying about their loved one being alone. Regular companion visits reduce caregiver burnout and give families peace of mind.

How quickly can companion care begin after I call?

Companion care can typically begin within 24–48 hours of your initial call. Cottage Home Care handles the intake process quickly so that your loved one has support as soon as possible.
