Why Cottage

Why Families Choose Us

CHAP Certified BadgeTop Rated BadgeLicensed BadgeBBB Accredited Business, A+ Rating
  1. We Know Maryland Home Care

Maryland home care can feel confusing. There are program rules and payment choices to think about. We walk Kent County families through Community First Choice, the Community Options Waiver, and private pay. We use plain language, so you understand what applies to you. You do not need to know the program name before you call.

  2. We Build a Plan Around You

Every family is different. We start by asking about your relative's day and routine. We ask what they need help with, and what they still like to do themselves. Then we build a plan around your family. It is not a generic plan made for someone else.

  3. Our Caregivers Are Carefully Chosen

Who enters your relative's home matters to us. Caregivers go through Cottage's screening steps first. This happens before they join a family's care team. We also look at routine, schedule, and personality when matching a caregiver. This helps us find someone who fits well.

  4. We Help You Understand Your Options

Some families are weighing Maryland Medicaid programs. Others are thinking about private pay, or comparing agencies. We explain what each option means in plain terms. We also explain what Cottage handles, and what Maryland decides. This helps you move forward with confidence.

  5. Licensed in Maryland

Cottage Home Care Maryland LLC holds RSA License No. 02496. The Maryland Department of Health issued this license. It covers the non-medical home care we provide to Kent County families.

Home Care Near You in Kent County

Cottage works with families across Kent County. This includes Chestertown, Rock Hall, Galena, Millington, and Betterton. It also includes Kennedyville, Worton, and nearby communities. Kent County is a smaller, rural county, so caregiver availability can vary by address. We confirm this directly with each family. Some households already have Maryland Medicaid and want to understand Community First Choice or the Community Options Waiver. Others are ready to pay privately and want to talk through scheduling and cost. Tell us what's going on at home, and we'll go over which options may fit. Upper Shore Aging, based in Chestertown, is also a helpful independent resource for Kent County families.

Maryland Community First Choice (CFC)

If your relative already has full Maryland Medicaid, Community First Choice may help pay for care at home instead of in a facility. CFC is a state Medicaid benefit, not a waiver. There's no age limit, but your relative must need an institutional level of care and live in the community. Approved services can include personal assistance and other authorized supports. Maryland decides eligibility and which services get approved. Once that happens, our caregivers follow the plan Maryland sets.

Community Options Waiver

If your relative needs nursing-facility-level care but wants to stay in the community, the Community Options Waiver may be worth asking about. It's also called HCBOW. It's open to Maryland residents age 18 and older. They must meet medical, technical, and financial rules. Maryland isn't currently taking new community applications directly. Interested families call Maryland Access Point to join the registry and wait for an invitation. Once enrolled, waiver participants also get Community First Choice benefits.

Private-Pay Home Care

If Medicaid isn't the right fit, or you'd rather not wait on a program decision, private pay lets your family start home care directly with Cottage. You choose the hours, from a few visits a week to more regular support. We build the schedule around your relative's needs and current caregiver availability in Kent County. Ask us about current hourly rates. This route works well for short-term help after a hospital stay, or for ongoing care.

FAQs

Home Care FAQs for Kent County Families

Still have a question?(667) 400-0648

Non-medical home care covers everyday support, not medical treatment. A Cottage caregiver can help with bathing, dressing, grooming, meals, light housekeeping, medication reminders, and company. This is different from skilled home health. Skilled home health includes nursing, therapy, or wound care ordered by a doctor. If your relative needs that kind of care, a licensed home health provider is the right fit.

The best fit depends on what your family needs, not just which agency comes up first. Ask if a provider offers the services you need. Ask if it's properly licensed, and how caregivers are chosen. Ask about schedules, costs, and communication. Also ask what happens if your relative's needs change. Cottage is glad to answer these questions before you decide.

Cost depends on the type of help, how many hours a week, and whether Medicaid or private pay covers the care. We don't publish one flat Kent County rate, because needs vary this much. Contact Cottage, and we'll go over current pricing for your situation.

Maryland Medicaid may cover home care. Programs like Community First Choice and the Community Options Waiver can help. Community First Choice is for people who already have full Medicaid and need an institutional level of care. The Community Options Waiver is for people age 18 and older who need nursing facility level care. Maryland decides who qualifies. Maryland also decides which services get approved. Not every applicant gets every requested hour.

In some situations, yes. Certain Maryland arrangements let a qualifying relative or trusted person provide paid, authorized support. This depends on the program, the service model, and worker qualifications. It is not automatic. Not every family member qualifies for every arrangement. Self-directed and agency-directed options follow different rules. Ask us which paid family caregiver options may fit your situation.

Yes. After a hospital or rehab stay, a Cottage caregiver can help with bathing, dressing, light mobility support, meals, and household tasks. This is non-medical support, not clinical care. If your relative needs skilled nursing, therapy, wound care, or clinical monitoring, a licensed home health provider should handle that part of recovery.

Cottage works with families in Chestertown, Rock Hall, Galena, Millington, Betterton, Kennedyville, and Worton. We also may serve some surrounding communities. Kent County is a smaller, rural county, so contact us to confirm care and caregiver availability for your address.

Contact Cottage and tell us what's become difficult. Share where your parent lives in Kent County, your preferred schedule, and whether Medicaid or private pay is being considered. From there, we'll walk you through the next step together.
